Leveraging Systems, Strategy, and a Passion for Trial Work to Help Clients Win
Few career stories produce as compelling a case study of how each moment of one’s professional career benefits one's work in the present as David Herman’s. With a rich background both in academia and in the practice of law, David’s successes as a trial attorney and his work in litigation, arbitration, mediation, negotiation, personal injury law, medical analysis, dispute resolutions, client services, depositions, team leadership, and management all inform his work at NRS Injury Law, making him a crucial asset to the firm and a force for good in the lives of his clients.
A Storied Career Background, Each Chapter Benefiting Clients Today
Back in school, a college professor guided David to legal studies, and before long, David had a full schedule of law courses. Later, he served as an Adjunct Professor at Kent State University from 2009 through 2012. David instructed class sizes of up to 40 students in Torts & Personal Injury Law. He also served as a Kent State Paralegal Program Advisory Committee member and a supervisor of the Paralegal Internship Program. Today, his experiences both studying and working in academia give David a rich understanding of legal theory, bolstering his already deep comprehension of the field and giving him a compelling advantage when representing clients.
His professional career is as meaningful as his academic work, if not more so. For example, David frequently draws on his background in defense litigation and management for Progressive Insurance Company. David worked to produce stellar results for Progressive for several years before joining NRS Injury Law. “At Progressive, I managed and developed a talented in-house litigation team. I also served as defense counsel against liability claims,” says David. “I gained invaluable experience as a manager for a Fortune 100 company and learned important information about how insurers evaluate and defend injury claims.” David now brings these skills to the forefront daily, utilizing his background knowledge of how insurance companies operate to get results for his clients on the plaintiff side of the case.
Experience as a Trial Attorney, Firm Manager, and Educator All Mean Superior Results for Clients
David draws on a diverse and valuable legal background when representing clients for NRS Injury Law. He has management experience, both in terms of managing departments and even entire firms. David has also maintained a caseload of 100 to 200 weekly cases while committing to a high standard of care, focus, determination, and good communication for each client. “I spend a lot of time with each client, because doing so builds trust and lends itself to client success in the long run,” David said.
So committed, David delivers results that matter, whether leveraging his rich trial expertise in complex personal injury cases or utilizing his executive planning skills to assist with developing and implementing new organizational changes and best practice standards. “It all comes together every day,” says David, reflecting on how he capitalizes on each aspect of his career to benefit his clients. “My work is supported immensely by the NRS Injury Law team and support system, which itself creates a cohesive and streamlined framework of client advocacy. At the firm, we bring clients in, make them a part of the team, and move forward towards victory, together.”
Community Involvement:
David strongly believes in the importance of community, a sentiment at the forefront of the NRS Injury Law mission and vision. For example, David participated in fundraising activities and events for the Muscular Dystrophy Association and sponsored the Make-A-Wish Foundation. He’s also volunteered for MedWish International and Habitat for Humanity.
Following the loss of his father to ALS in December 2023, David committed much of his free time to the ALS Association Northern Ohio Chapter. “Remember that ALS Ice Bucket Challenge we all did back in the early-2010s?” asks David. “The research funded by that challenge ultimately helped my father have a better life towards the end, so I’ve seen firsthand how all of us can make a real difference in medical challenges like these, especially when we work together. That’s why I’m committed to supporting ALS research and study.”
In addition to his volunteer work in the community, David has also contributed his time to multiple speaking engagements for various legal groups. For example, David gave an acclaimed speech called “Professionalism: The Pillar of Your Practice” for the Ohio Association for Justice. He also delivered a speech called “Auto Accident Litigation: The Ultimate Guide” to the National Business Institute, one of multiple speeches delivered to that organization.
Work/Life Balance:
David lives in Brecksville with his wife, Amy, who is also an attorney, and their child. He hikes in Cuyahoga Valley National Park every Sunday. Committed to pursuing knowledge and always looking for ways to provide more value through his career, David is currently enrolled at Michigan State University, where he’s pursuing a master's degree in management.
