Leveraging a Diverse Background in Ohio Workers’ Compensation Law to Win Cases for Clients
Laura Morway is an Associate Attorney at NRS Injury Law, focusing on workers’ compensation law. A flawless communicator and someone who can explain difficult legal codes while simultaneously crafting eloquent trial arguments, Laura’s ability to tap into the details and nuances of Ohio’s workers’ comp law in a way that benefits plaintiffs makes her an essential part of the NRS Injury Law team.
An Attorney with a Knack for Strategy and a Passion for Representing Working Ohioans
“I grew up working after-school and summer jobs at Woolworths and Sears while most of the adults in my immediate and extended family were employed in hard, working-class jobs,” Laura said, outlining her path to law. “My father experienced a grievous injury when I was 15 years old. He fell off a two-story platform while working at General Motors and broke his ankle, which forever altered his mobility and quality of life.”
Laura began her career as a claims and rate analyst, learning from a young age everything that goes on behind the scenes in the workers’ compensation space. Laura’s knack for mathematics, premium rate calculations, and Ohio’s legal codes, combined with her firsthand experience with claims and settlements, all came together to quickly advance her career to the point where she felt called to pursue a legal degree. She passed the bar on the first try after just two years and eight months in law school.
Building on a Background as a Claims Specialist, Auditor, and Attorney
Laura has a lifetime of professional experience in a range of fields that have all contributed to her unique skill set in workers’ compensation law. Her analytical and technical skills (developed in her roles as a claims specialist) gave her strong research, writing, communication, interpersonal, and conflict resolution skills. Her time as a claims specialist also allowed her to work in 11 workers’ compensation jurisdictions and become proficient in claim reserves, wage calculations, payment of eligible compensation, authorization of appropriate medical treatment, medical billing, analysis of medical and psychological reports, medical/psychological terminology, and the effect of disease and injury on the body as a result of workplace injuries and illnesses.
As a result of spending decades working as an auditor and attorney, Laura also has extensive experience working in both the private and public sectors, as well as in liaising between government institutions and businesses. Her experience presenting cases before the Ohio Industrial Commission has given her an edge when presenting plaintiff’s workers’ compensation cases. Laura possesses essential critical thinking skills, is detail-oriented, and has an excellent ability to prioritize, organize, execute decisions, and solve problems. Her ability to work on a team makes her an essential member of NRS Injury Law and a crucial advocate for injured workers.
Work/Life Balance
During her free time, Laura enjoys golfing and volunteering in her hometown of Boardman, Ohio. She also enjoys kayaking, fly fishing, weekend home improvement projects, and spending time with family and friends.
