Dan graduated Magna Cum Laude from Kent State University in 1993 with a Bachelor of Business Administration after majoring in Finance and Business Management. After receiving the Dean's Scholarship, he graduated from Cleveland-Marshall College of Law in 1996.

Dan clerked at a large plaintiff's personal injury firm while in law school then worked as an associate attorney in a large Cleveland based insurance defense firm.
