Combining a Passion for Client Advocacy with a Deep Knowledge of Personal Injury Law
Coming from a background in journalism, Vincent D. Scebbi has always operated with the deep understanding that attorneys are storytellers for their clients, tasked with accurately portraying client experiences to show judges, juries, and mediators why the client deserves justice.
“Being an attorney means being of service to the people,” says Vince. “It’s a role where I leverage my background in journalism melded with my experience in law to tell the story my client has to share, and to tell it in a way that utilizes the laws and statutes that exist to protect my client from harm.”
A Background in Law
From a very early age, Vince was interested in professional fields where he could advocate for others. While in school, Vince met and shadowed a county prosecutor in Medina County, an experience that inspired him to start taking law courses and shift his focus from journalism to law. After being recognized by the Society of Professional Journalists for his writing and after serving as the Editor-in-Chief of the University of Toledo's newspaper, The Independent Collegian, Vince pursued a law degree at Cleveland-Marshall College of Law. While in law school, Vince was an active member of the Cleveland-Marshall Mock Trial Team, where he took first place in the 2015 Case Classic Mock Trial Tournament, as well as capturing Best Advocate in the championship round. He was also a semifinalist in the 2016 Texas Young Lawyer Association Regional Tournament. Vince graduated magna cum laude in 2016.
Before joining NRS Injury Law, Vince clerked for a prestigious plaintiff’s litigation firm in Cleveland. Vince also clerked for a local municipal prosecutor’s office, assisting in drafting an appellate brief before the Ohio Eighth District Court of Appeals. And that was just the beginning. Vince was also active in Cleveland-Marshall’s law clinics. As a member of the Civil Litigation Clinic, he gained experience representing individuals seeking unemployment benefits. In the Post-Conviction Relief Clinic, Vince drafted multiple successful Petitions for Habeas Corpus before the United States Northern District of Ohio.
Communication is Key
To this day, Vince credits his success as a personal injury attorney to his rich understanding of the law and his journalistic abilities to effectively frame an issue and tell his client's story. A practicing attorney since 2016, Vince has learned that so much of being an effective lawyer requires effective communication. It means listening to clients, keeping them apprised of their cases, and knowing how to discuss the complex nuances of law with them. Vince has learned that communication is key because it helps clients put their trust and faith in their attorney. When the client-attorney relationship is built on trust, clients never feel alone, and they win in court.
“My philosophy is that every client has a story,” says Vince. “My job is to listen, understand, and conceptualize that story in a legal framework. If I can do that, I’m able to represent my client effectively and see that justice is served for them.”
A Unique Skill for Personal Injury Law
Vince found his niche in personal injury law soon after developing an interest in the broader legal field. A highly empathetic individual with a penchant for advocating for those wronged, Vince gravitated towards clients and families coming to NRS Injury Law after being injured by powerful corporations, faulty products, and commercial vehicles.
“One of my proudest moments as a young journalist was covering a devastating tornado that hit Ohio,” says Vince. “Today, I leverage that same level of empathy, compassion, attentiveness, and advocacy for my clients in courtrooms and mediation sessions. It’s all about the human beings involved in these cases. It’s all about their stories and ensuring they receive justice for how they've been wronged.”
Always Committed to Helping the Community
Vince joined NRS Injury Law because NRS Injury Law is committed to serving the people. Approachable, lighthearted, communicative, social, and yet driven, experienced, and highly successful in client representation, Vince embodies all the same traits that the firm does. From helping with NRS's annual giveaway at Thanksgiving to leveraging his creative talents in helping his community, Vince’s values and his people-focused perspective align perfectly with NRS's Mission and Vision. When he's not working cases, Vince is exploring Cleveland, connecting with locals, finding opportunities to help, and always keeping an eye out for new restaurants, trivia hotspots, and good weather for hitting his favorite golf course.
