Drawing on a Diverse Legal Background to Help Injured Ohio Workers Secure Compensation
Charles D. ‘Danny’ Matlock is an Associate Attorney at NRS Injury Law, focusing on workers’ compensation law. Dedicated to helping others, Charles utilizes unmatched communication skills, a knack for client relationship-building, and an ability to construct creative case strategies to get results for injured workers.
Committed to Helping Victims of Malpractice, Malfeasance, and Cruelty
From a very young age, Charles has understood the value of hard work, of putting in honest time for a good result. As a youth, he worked as a camp counselor in the woodworking department during summer break, and he detailed automobiles during the school year on evenings and weekends. “I took to hard labor like a natural, and I learned very early on the importance of it,” Charles says, describing his background.
Also very early on, Charles began to meet people in his mostly working-class communities who’d been wronged by forces that had much greater power and resources than they. From residents facing eviction to individuals accused of crimes but who couldn’t defend themselves, co-workers who’d been injured on the job and had no resources to pay their bills or seek compensation, friends who were being discriminated against at work, Charles grew up seeing it all.
Charles described a major legal case he worked on, one of the last he handled before transitioning to workers’ compensation law. To him, this case epitomized why he got into law. “I took on a case at the Legal Aid Society where I blew the whistle on a Louisville apartment complex that was trying to illegally evict 600 residents,” he said. “It was just one of many cases I handled at that firm, but this one made national news, and we saved hundreds of people from being unlawfully kicked out of their residences. Most of these folks couldn’t afford attorneys, mind you, so had we not gotten involved, their lives would have been horribly affected by the corporation that owned the apartments.”
Skill Sets in Communication, Strategy, and Relationship-Building; Directed towards Workers’ Compensation Law
After moving to Cleveland to be closer to his only son, Charles took a job at NRS Injury Law, finding his calling in workers’ compensation. Fluent in Spanish and English, Charles now dedicates his time to helping injured workers. “I joined NRS Injury Law because I knew I’d be able to help people as I had been in my previous work representing tenants,” Charles said. “This firm has that same, community-minded, help-the-little-guy approach. People work at NRS Injury Law because they take pride in helping others. This firm is what you get when you have a bunch of the right people under the same roof with the shared goal of helping others.”
An accomplished attorney with a diverse background representing lone individuals up against powerful, domineering forces, Charles has dedicated his life to helping people when they need it most. As a colleague of his once said, “Mr. Matlock believes clear and effective communication is the key to a successful attorney-client relationship. He takes the time to listen to his clients to ensure that he understands each case’s unique challenges and demands.”
Work/Life Balance
When he’s not helping clients, Charles dedicates most of his free time to his son. Evenings and weekends are filled with soccer, baseball, flag football, swimming lessons, basketball, and golf. In the morning and around sunset, Charles can be found walking his dog at the park or chatting with his neighbors.

Community Impact
Charles has been giving back to his community for as long as he can remember. When he was in middle school, his grandmother had to enter assisted living, and even after she passed away, Charles continued to go to the center and volunteer by spending time with elderly residents. During his undergrad, Charles volunteered with Big Brothers Big Sisters of America. In law school, Charles took on a role as a teaching assistant in the legal writing program, as he insisted he would never have passed those initial courses were it not for the help he’d received in the same program. Today, Charles serves as a volunteer coach at his son’s school.
