Helping Injured Workers Through a Lifetime of Court Litigation
“I spent the first eight years of my career from 1978 to 1986 litigating cases in the workers’ comp section of the Ohio Attorney General’s Office,” said Mitchell, reflecting on the moments that brought him to today. “I left that office with another of the Assistant Attorneys General and we opened a practice representing injured workers. Right away, we saw just how rewarding and satisfying that was, representing injured workers rather than doing the defense work on the other side of the aisle.”
From 1986 to 1996, Mitchell and his partner diligently represented people who had been injured in the line of work. Mitchell carried on with a solo practice from 1996 to 2024. At the dawn of the new year in January 2024, Mitchell joined NRS Injury Law after 20 years of providing co-counsel to the firm.
A Call to Serve Injured Workers
“I was a political science major in college, but after coming up short in terms of career ideas that excited me in that field, I shifted focus and went to law school,” said Mitchell. “Almost immediately, I fell in love with trial work and court litigation. When I got placed at the Ohio Attorney General’s Office in my first year out of college, they put me in the workers’ comp department.”
Pursuing a Career in Court Litigation
Eight years in the Attorney General’s office gave Mitchell a deep appreciation for court litigation and an even deeper understanding of the nuances and intricacies of Ohio’s workers’ comp law. “It’s not a simple or easy field of law, and within a few years of working at the AG’s office, I began to really feel for the injured workers who were just trying to be made whole again,” said Mitchell.
Over a career that’s spanned several decades representing first the state of Ohio and then injured workers, Mitchell’s greatest moments in the thousands of cases he’s litigated have been those when he made a tangible difference in his client’s life. Now, with NRS Injury Law, Mitchell litigates cases in the courtroom where beneficial outcomes for clients are simply a part of the day-to-day. Maybe that’s why, even after several decades in the field, the veteran workers’ comp attorney is still in the courtroom and at the office six days per week.
Work/Life Balance:
Mitchell understands the value of rest and the occasional ‘recharge’ day, so when he’s not working cases, Mitchell can be found at home on the east side of Cleveland with his wife, reading his favorite mystery and spy novels, watching the game, or putting on a classic film.
